WORLD WATER DAY

22nd of March

I don't know about you guys, but this is when the gratitude kicks in, for me. UNESCO & UN every year on this day try and raise awareness and bring focus on one of the words biggest problem. Running, fresh water. Billions of people are less, much less fortunate than us. We can not even imagine a day without water, let alone electricity whilst all around the world this is a luxury. Children not getting education or not attending schools because they need to walk miles to bring fresh water for their families.

Lets help out. Lets do our part. Last year, in Malta, a walk was organized to raise awareness and represent that walk that kids and all the others in need go on daily. I tried and look for it, to part-take this year but didn't find anything, please if you know something, let us know and let us join.

Every year, UN chooses a theme, this year is International Year of Water Cooperation. While 2005 was decided a decade long theme under the name Water for Life. Last year was Water and Food Security and so on. Here is a link where you can read more about the World Water day and ways to donate and help.

And here are some ideas how you can do your part at your home:

  • Save a bath for the special evenings. Shower.
  • Put a brick in the water tank above the toilet. Brick takes up space and therefore less water is wasted in each flush.
  • Use used water to water your plants. Like bath water.
  • Collect rain water for your garden, and you can drink it if you filter it.
  • Water your lawn and garden at night time. When sun is under the horizon, the water doesn't evaporate as easy therefore you'll need less.
  • Keep a pitcher or a bottle of water in the refrigerator for when you feel like a drink, that way every drop goes into you and it doesn't waste.
  • Switch the water off whilst brushing your teeth.
  • Drop the tissues in the bin, instead of flashing it every time.
  • And many many more.
